Are Living Walls For You?

KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT

3 FACTS TO KNOW BEFORE CONSIDERING LIVING WALLS

6 FACTORS TO KNOW TO MAKE LIVING WALL SUCCESS

  • Do your homework, research the system: trays, pockets, hydroponic

  • Request Maintenance Frequency and Rates

  • Know upfront who will Service the Wall

  • Growing Medium and Plant Rooting

There are now more choices of medium in which the plants are going to root into.  Soil based living walls tend to have higher plant replacement rates due to the fact that with time soil dries out.  Our installations are soil free.

  • Irrigation

Even distribution of water within the system is the key.  We use drip and sweat irrigation systems, which are built into the living wall and fully automated.  There are no external spraying or misting required.  Depending on location, access to the water source and drainage the system can be open loop: water drains to the ground or sewer; or closed loop: water is recycled through built-in water tank.

  • Plant Selection

There are top plant performers based on the sun exposure, wind, nearby salty water particles.

  • Lighting

Most outdoor project require special lighting to guarantee proper plant growth and development.

  • Maintenance: Frequency, Fees and Plant Replacement Rate

Soil free systems have minimum plant replacement rates and once a month manicuring service is sufficient to maintain outstanding looks.

Plant Selection as Key Success Factor

Variety of plants from annual to perennial can be considered for Living Wall / Vertical Garden Applications, however considering the ultimate goal of the green wall maintenance being minimum plant replacing rates initial plant selection is the one of the key success factors.

Trough years of experiments in our nursery we have perfected our Design Procedure our Artistic Pallet of Top performing species based on requirements of the location.  We also are good listeners and take into account client's overall vision and individual taste and preferences in our designs.  In order to get client's input the client is asked to complete Living Wall Design Questionnaire.

Below is the general gallery of the top performing plants for living wall applications.  Such criteria as shade / partial shade / sun exposure, water consumption, development of foliage over time are considered during design process.
